Travel Guide Update: Hawaii Interisland Travel

on February 27, 2017

As promised, I have updated the Interisland Travel Guide.  Much has stayed the same, which I verified manually.  I did make some small additions on new nonstop flights:

  • new route as of March 2017: between Honolulu, Oahu (HNL) to Kapalua, Maui (JHM).  This route will be operated by Hawaiian Air‘s regional subsidiary, ‘Ohana by Hawaiian.
  • new route as of March 2017: Kapalua, Maui (JHM) to Kahului, Maui (OGG).  This route will be operated by Hawaiian Air‘s regional subsidiary, ‘Ohana by Hawaiian.
  • new route as of March 2017: Kailua Kona, Hawaii (KOA) to Lihue, Kauai (LIH).  This route will be operated by Hawaiian Air.

Finally, a few details about Island Air’s Kupuna & Keiki Saver Fare Program.  The Hawaiian words kupuna and keiki refer to elders and children, respectively.  This is a nice benefit that is NOT limited to Kama’aina.  From Island Air’s page…

If you are over 62 and traveling, or have someone 12 and younger traveling, take advantage of our $62* Kūpuna and Keiki Saver Fare (Oahu, Maui and Kauai) or $72** for Kona. As the affordable alternative for air travel, we want to make it easy and affordable for families to stay connected.

One might occasionally find a lower fare than this nowadays, but this is a nice, reliable option that appears to be good through the end of 2017.
